Translated the name, 'Iwanami' means ‘rock amidst the breaking waves’. In Japanese tradition Iwanami represents harmony and balance (in a similar way to Chinese Yin Yang) . It is this ethos that symbolises the core ideals of the Dojo (club).
Iwanami Dojo was formed in 2001 (after the Dojo leader moved from London (Hoyukai Dojo 1977-1987) to Wales (Isshin Dojo 1987-1999) and then to York. For more information join us on Facebook) and now has approximately 25 students (correct as of 29th April 2012). |
