Iaido

Iai is the Japanese art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword.

The school of Iai practiced in Iwanami dojo is hasagawa aishin ryu.

We practice with bokken (wooden swords), iaito (blunt training swords) or shinken (live blades).

In accordance with historical tradition no grades or coloured belts are awarded and there is no competition or sparring within Iai in this school. Training is entirely through kata and exercises - not through combat or sparring.
